How much does it cost to charge your electric car at home?

More than 85% of all electric car charging takes place at home. That’s because it’s simple, convenient, and highly cost effective – just plug in your car when you get home from your commute and wake up in the morning with a battery full to the brim.

It’s a good idea to switch to an EV-specific energy tariff, which allows you to access cheaper, off-peak electricity. This means that you could be paying less than 10p per kWh (off-peak) to charge your electric car – a cost per mile of around 3p.

What is the difference between tethered and untethered EV Chargers?

Tethered chargers, come with a cable attached to the unit which cannot be detached. The cable has a Type 2 plug attached, which has become the worldwide industry standard and is suitable for all modern EVs. (excluding a handful of early Type 1 models, hence if you have Type 1 you should choose the untethered unit).

Untethered chargers do not come with a cable attached to the unit. Meaning you will need to use a separate cable to charge.
